PUTRAJAYA: Umno supreme council member and Baling MP Datuk Seri Abdul Azeez Rahim has been released from remand.
The former Tabung Haji chairman and his brother Datuk Latiff were released today (Oct 5) on RM1mil bail each with two sureties.
Magistrate Ahmad Afiq Hassan granted their release.
On Sept 26, Abdul Azeez, his brother and a cousin were remanded for four days as the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission conducted a probe on them.
The remand order for Abdul Azeez and Latiff were extended on Sept 30, while the cousin was released.
The graftbusters are investigating the three over corruption and money-laundering allegations.
On May 23, the MACC raided Abdul Azeez’s homes and offices and seized RM500,000 in cash, 20 watches and several pieces of jewellery.
A crowd of supporters, who gathered at the court complex to see Abdul Azeez, cheered and clapped when they saw him walk out of the court room.
The supporters wore orange t-shirts similar in hue to the MACC remand garb in a show of solidarity with Abdul Azeez.
