KUALA TERENGGANU: PKR vice-president Rafizi Ramli is leading the race for the hotly contested deputy president post in the Terengganu leg of the PKR elections.

According to early results on Friday (Oct 5), Rafizi won 1,506 votes over incumbent deputy president Datuk Seri Azmin Ali who garnered 1,269 votes.

However, election chief coordinator Amri Awang said the results have yet to be confirmed as they await the final votes from Kuala Nerus.

Meanwhile, Kuala Terengganu PKR chief Azan Ismail defended his post with 180 votes.

Azan, who is also PKR state chief, was up against two others, Mohd Alfaizal Amjed and Md Shuhaimi Ismail, who each got 99 and 14 votes.

The PKR elections in Terengganu were disrupted only by a minor skirmish in Marang.

In the noon incident, a misunderstanding over candidate flyers led to a heated argument as party members cast their votes at the Medan Jaya Community hall.

However, the situation soon cooled with the intervention of other party members.

Head invigilator at the Marang polls, Mazlan Kidam said the misunderstanding had little effect on the polls, which continued without any problems.

In Setiu, Shahrin Dzulkafli won the division vice-chief post uncontested after his only contender, incumbent Donia Hasan, passed away around 2.30am on Friday at Hospital Sultanah Nur Zahirah following a stroke.
