KUCHING: A PKR election candidate has lodged a police report after the polling date for the Petra Jaya division was changed at the last minute from Saturday (Nov 10) to Sunday (Nov 11).
Iswardy Morni, who is contesting the division chairman post, said about 100 members showed up to cast their votes on Saturday morning only to discover that the date had been changed.
“We were told on Oct 28 that voting would be held on Nov 10. On Nov 7, we received a notice that voting for Petra Jaya was changed to Nov 11.
“As we had already informed and mobilised our voters, we objected to the change and on Nov 8 the party central election committee (JPP) agreed to change it back to Nov 10,” he told reporters after making the report at the Simpang Tiga one-stop centre here on Saturday (Nov 10) afternoon.
Iswardy said he checked the official election website at about 9pm on Friday (Nov 9) to see that the date was still scheduled as Nov 10, but when he checked again after 10pm the date had been changed to Nov 11.
Two branch members also lodged police reports, claiming that they felt cheated because they were not informed of the date change.
The Petra Jaya division has some 1,500 members eligible to vote.
Sarawak is the last state where the PKR election is being held. A total of 22 divisions are voting on Saturday (Nov 10) and seven on Sunday (Nov 11).
